Tramping on the Peninsula

Kia ora katoa family and friends

Excitement is building....Adventures are underway!
Tickets are booked, travel guides read, and preparations are underway to undertake the next adventure with  the travelling granny. The northern hemisphere beckons again and this time I head directly to the UK on 7th June with travelling companion and friend, Brad otherwise Helen Bradbury.

We have a day to explore the city of Shanghai on our flight over -a challenge as it is the largest city in the world so guess we will have a blink at life in the city. So far I have plans to explore The Bund, visit the Yu Gardens and Bazaar,Pearl Tower, the Fabric Market and if possible the old  'venice town' on the outskirts of the city. The treat of a head massage and noodle soup are recommended and maybe a visit to the marriage market in the Peoples Square. This takes place while we are there and suggests a people watching opportunity as parents bargain for brides and grooms!

Our big plan is to walk 220kms of the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago del Compostela-a pilgrims trail to the spiritual home of St James who was said to have been transported  from his beheading by Herod in Jerusalem back to 'the field of the Star' later known as Santiago. His bones were carried  on board a stone boat and laid to rest in a Gallician  field until discovered by a monk and venerated by the faithful over centuries of pilgimages from all parts of Europe. The French and Spanish Way is better known but a trawl on-line has many stories to tell of pilgrims progress on different routes.

Brad and I have been doing lots of preparation for the walk.Thank goodness the autumn has been kind and we have not had to practise in the rain or snow!
Last week we walked on the peninsula and enjoyed wonderful views while snacking on our apples.
It was a good hike up the Greenacres Track to the high road and onto the castle road, around the outskirts of the  Larnachs Castle grounds until we linked up to the Broad Bay track and walked back home via the Portobello Road as the walking track had closed!
We had a superb brunch at the Bay Cafe -yummy French Toast for me (a birthday treat) and coffee before walking home for a well earned rest.
